Restoring the church of Saint-Ouen le Brisoult and its listed heritage is a... long-term mission! Between 2022, the date of creation of SOLB61 and 2024, the cleaning operations of the church have followed one another: floors, benches, walls, ceilings, statues... Multiple expert meetings have also been organized with the heritage mission of the Orne Departmental Council and many experts, architects, engineers specializing in religious heritage... Routine maintenance operations under the project management of the town hall have continued. At the same time, the total restoration work of the sacristy has been carefully prepared. Undertaken in spring 2024 under the leadership of SOLB61 volunteers, they should be completed in the first half of 2025. In 2024, the association and the town hall began to establish a multi-year investment plan based on the conclusions of the various expert visits, which will be discussed by the municipal council.

SACRISTY
The sacristy restoration project is the first restoration project undertaken as part of SOLB61's actions. It is the result of joint work between the association and the town hall. Led by Hubert Mesguen and Hubert Châtellier, who have not counted their hours, nor feared the cold of autumn and winter days, the project should be completed in 2025, after more than a year of work. The operation is accompanied by a significant mobilization of volunteers, essential to successfully complete the many essential intermediate stages (see phases opposite). It is also an opportunity to better understand the construction of the church and to think together about the programming of future interventions.

Stained glass windows
The church of Saint-Ouen le Brisoult has several historic stained glass windows from different periods, often financed by families from the village. These stained glass windows require regular maintenance, which can be carried out on site or require work in a specialized workshop. In situ interventions were carried out in 2023-24 by Charles Fontaine to redo insulation joints, under the supervision of one of the stained glass restoration specialists in Orne. Other work is to be planned, as well as the creation of new stained glass windows.
Phases
1. Maintenance of stained glass windows on site
2. Restoration of stained glass windows in a specialist workshop in Orne
3. Creation of new stained glass windows

restoration of sculptures
For the period 2025-2035 (indicative), the restoration work on the church of Saint-Ouen le Brisoult will focus in particular on the bell tower (restoration of the very damaged wooden louvers). Other interventions are urgent, particularly on the junction between the bell tower, which dates from the middle of the 19th century, and the main building, which dates from the 16th century (the church itself dates from the 12th-13th century). Not to mention the restoration of the listed works of art (set of polychrome wooden sculptures from the 17th century), which will ultimately be the priority of the association.
